Abstract: The use of a phase space transformation chopper for a new backscattering spectrometer, planned for the FRM I1 reactor in Munich, is discussed. It will be shown that a phase space transformation increases the neutron flux at the desired backscattering energy. The gain will be compared with a normal super mirrored neutron guide system.
