Abstract: Using a Monte Carlo simulation method for calculating the proton and neutron flux distribution a symmetrical geometry – two targets surrounding a side moderator – is proposed for the target station of a spallation source. Mesitylene possessing high stability against radiation damage is discussed as a possible material for the cold source.
