Abstract: Night light data can reflect the economic activity in a specific area, which is closely related to GDP. But within the different cities and areas, the relationships show different performances. This paper uses the data of long time series multi-source night lights to solve the limitation of DMSP-OLS and NPP-VIIRS data sources. According to the situation of Shanghai, we studied the relationship between average night light intensity and GDP in Shanghai through correlation analysis and linear regression methods. The results show that there is a significant positive relationship between the Shanghai average night light intensity and GDP, also the average night light intensity has a significant positive effect on GDP in Shanghai. In this paper, the new attempt is made in mathematical calculation method and constructing model, and a better result is obtained, which has good theoretical significance and practical value for the scientific application of night light data.
