Abstract: This paper presents a novel 1-dimensional object location estimation algorithm using Leaky Coaxial Cable (LCX). The proposed algorithm utilizes the relationship between the transmission attenuation of LCX and wave transmission distance in LCX. Two transmitters are placed at two ports of LCX, wireless terminals receive the signals from those two transmitters at the same time and measure the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) value. Estimation was carried out using the two RSSI values as well as LCX transmission attenuation, so the formula of location detection was derived. On the basis, the paper analyzed the location estimation accuracy, and position detection error was experimentally investigated. Test results demonstrate that the theoretical analysis is effective, and the estimation algorithm is suitable for 1-dimensional object position detection in tunnel and enclosed spaces.
