Abstract: During 1987/88 the Australian Database Development Association (ADDA) 11ADDA gratefully acknowledges the co-operation of the database producers and online vendors who responded to its survey. carried out a survey of Australian and New Zealand databases which are publicly available online. Results of the survey and a description of each database are presented in ADDA's Directory of Australian and New Zealand Databases [1]. The survey identified 211 databases (199 Australian and 12 New Zealand) from 97 database producers, Eighty one of the Australian databases are new since ADDA's 1986 survey. The paper presents data on the characteristics of the databases, their producers and vendors, access costs, subject coverage, and associated publications and products. Regular surveys will continue, and in future may include databases made publicly available on media such as diskette or CD-ROM. A summary of the resolutions relevant to databases from the Australian Libraries Summit held in October 1988 is given, and the paper concludes with some general observations about promotion of Australian databases.
