Library networking at AT&T: new information needs and technologies in a competitive environment*

Abstract: AT&T faces many new challenges as a result of deregulation and divestiture. The effect of these changes on the Library Network operated by AT&T Bell Laboratories is described. Particular effects are cost sensitivity, increased use of electronic technology, and the development of new information products. Enhancements and improvements to online systems and data bases are suggested. The requirements for marketing and promotion of in-house services are noted.
