Editorial: Darts, Connect Four and the 2022 Computer Olympiad
The first contribution to this issue is Real-time Optical Dart Detection and Scoring Algorithm for Steel Tip Dartboards by Ervin Domazet. Automatic scoring for Darts has been addressed with many quite different techniques ranging from microphone triangulation to using the Hough transformation. After recalling the earlier work of Boldyrev, Domazet proposes several improvements to the system developed by Boldyrev. The improvements deal with the calibration, the camera positions and angles, the detection and the parallelization. The resulting system has a high accuracy and will be of practical use for Darts players.
The second contribution to this issue is Second Player’s Cannot-Lose Strategy for Cylinder-Infinite-Connect-Four with Circumference 11 by Yoshiaki Yamaguchi. At Cylinder-Infinite-Connect-Four, it was proved that White can prevent Black from winning for all circumferences except circumferences 6 and 11. This paper details a strategy for White for circumference 11.
At the end of this issue Hiroyuki Iida, Jonathan Schaeffer and I-Chen Wu report on The 2022 Computer Olympiad.
