Abstract: This article, based on the responses to a questionnaire mailed to heads of Nigerian library schools, examines the prospects and problems for library education in Nigeria in the next decade. The results show that the existing library schools will expand at a fairly rapid rate, while a few new ones will be established. The library schools will be able to meet most of the manpower needs of Nigerian libraries and information centres. There are, however, problems of proper planning and coordination of the library education system, funding, suitable local textbooks, staffing and provision of adequate research facilities and continuing education programmes.
