Interviews on AI and Education: Beverly Woolf and Roger Schank

Abstract: Beverly Woolf is an Assistant Professor and a Research Scientist at the University of Massachusetts, Computer and Information Science Department. Her work covers two areas of Artificial Intelligence: knowledge representation and control structures, in relation to the production of effective human-machine communication. Last year Beverly Woolf was interviewed verbally in Canada. However, the fear of every knowledge engineer came true: the tape on which the interview was recorded appeared to be damaged. The second attempt was more successful, this spring we interviewed her by computer. She logged in from Massachusetts at our system in Amsterdam, and with a split screen we could communicate with each other without a delay. Do not fear that this interview is more formal than an ordinary interview: Beverly Woolf speaks quickly, but she types even quicker. She typed her answers right from the heart.
