Abstract: In this document we describe the Amsterdam Museum Linked Open Data set. The dataset is a five-star Linked Data representation and comprises the entire collection of the Amsterdam Museum consisting of more than 70,000 object descriptions. Furthermore, the institution's thesaurus and person authority files used in the object metadata are included in the Linked Data set. The data is mapped to the Europeana Data Model, utilizing Dublin Core, SKOS, RDA-group2 elements and the OAI-ORE model to represent the museum data. Vocabulary concepts are mapped to GeoNames and DBpedia. Abstract: Facebook's Graph API is an API for accessing objects and connections in Facebook's social graph. To give some idea of the enormity of the social graph underlying Facebook, it was recently announced that Facebook has 901 million users, and the social graph consists of many types beyond just users. Until recently, the Graph API provided data to applications in only a JSON format. In 2011, an effort was undertaken to provide the same data in a semantically-enriched, RDF format containing Linked Data URIs. This was achieved by implementing a flexible and robust translation of the JSON output to a Turtle …output. Abstract: The publication of public sector information (PSI) data sets has brought to the attention of the scientific community the redundant presence of location based context. At the same time it stresses the inadequacy of current Linked Data services for exploiting the semantics of such contextual dimensions for easing entity retrieval and browsing. In this paper we describe our Linked Data representation of the NUTS European statistical subdivision, created to support the e-government and public sector in publishing their data sets. Abstract: The Thesaurus for the Social Sciences (TheSoz) is a Linked Dataset in SKOS format, which serves as a crucial instrument for information retrieval based on e.g. document indexing or search term recommendation. Thesauri and similar controlled vocabularies build a linking bridge for datasets from the Linked Open Data cloud. In this article the conversion process of the TheSoz to SKOS is described including the analysis of the original dataset and its structure, the mapping to adequate SKOS classes and properties, and the technical conversion. In order to create a semantically full representation of TheSoz in SKOS, extensions based on SKOS-XL …had to be defined. These allow the modeling of special relations like compound equivalences and terms with ambiguities. Additionally, mappings to other datasets and the appliance of the TheSoz are presented. Abstract: This paper describes the Atlante Sintattico d'Italia, Syntactic Atlas of Italy (ASIt) linguistic linked dataset. ASIt is a scientific project aiming to account for minimally different variants within a sample of closely related languages; it is part of the Edisyn network, the goal of which is to establish a European network of researchers in the area of language syntax that use similar standards with respect to methodology of data collection, data storage and annotation, data retrieval and cartography. In this context, ASIt is defined as a curated database which builds on dialectal data gathered during a twenty-year-long survey investigating the …distribution of several grammatical phenomena across the dialects of Italy. Both the ASIt linguistic linked dataset and the Resource Description Framework Schema (RDF/S) on which it is based are publicly available and released with a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0). We report the characteristics of the data exposed by ASIt, the statistics about the evolution of the data in the last two years, and the possible usages of the dataset, such as the generation of linguistic maps. Abstract: The TourMISLOD dataset exposes as linked data a significant portion of the content of TourMIS, a key source of European tourism statistics data. TourMISLOD contains information about the Arrivals, Bednights and Capacity tourism indicators, recorded from 1985 onwards, about over 150 European cities and in connection to 19 major markets. Due to licensing issues, the usage of this dataset is currently limited to the TourMIS consortium. Nevertheless, a prototype application has already revealed the dataset's usefulness for decision support.

Abstract: BioPortal is a repository of biomedical ontologies – the largest such repository, with more than 300 ontologies to date. This set includes ontologies that were developed in OWL, OBO and other formats, as well as a large number of medical terminologies that the US National Library of Medicine distributes in its own proprietary format. We have published the RDF version of all these ontologies at http://sparql.bioontology.org. This dataset contains 190M triples, representing both metadata and content for the 300 ontologies. We use the metadata that the ontology authors provide and simple RDFS reasoning in order to provide dataset users with …uniform access to key properties of the ontologies, such as lexical properties for the class names and provenance data. The dataset also contains 9.8M cross-ontology mappings of different types, generated both manually and automatically, which come with their own metadata. Show more

Abstract: We describe the AEMET meteorological dataset, which makes available some data sources from the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET, Spanish Meteorological Office) as Linked Data. The data selected for publication are generated every ten minutes by approximately 250 automatic weather stations deployed across Spain and made available as CSV files in the AEMET FTP server. These files are retrieved from the server, processed with Python scripts, transformed to RDF according to an ontology network (which reuses the W3C SSN Ontology), published in a triple store and visualized using Map4RDF.

Abstract: Europeana is a single access point to millions of books, paintings, films, museum objects and archival records that have been digitized throughout Europe. The data.europeana.eu Linked Open Data pilot dataset contains open metadata on approximately 2.4 million texts, images, videos and sounds gathered by Europeana. All metadata are released under Creative Commons CC0 and therefore dedicated to the public domain. The metadata follow the Europeana Data Model and clients can access data either by dereferencing URIs, downloading data dumps, or executing SPARQL queries against the dataset. Abstract: The BookSampo dataset provides information as linked data on fiction literature published in Finland going back to the 15th century, along with rich descriptions of both their content and context. The dataset contains data on nearly 400,000 subjects, including literary works, authors, book covers, reviews, awards, images, and movies, over 3 million triples in total. The data has been applied as the basis of the BookSampo portal in public use in Finland, and is aligned with the cross-domain cultural heritage contents and ontologies of CultureSampo, another in-use semantic portal. The data has been used to answer complex questions, such as …what topics should one write about, if one wants to get a literary award (based on statistics). The metadata was transformed into RDF from legacy library databases, then enriched manually by dozens of librarians in a Web 2.0 fashion in Finnish public libraries, and is constantly updated at a rate of some new 90,000 triples monthly. Abstract: We describe the datos.bne.es library dataset. The dataset makes available the authority and bibliography catalogue from the Biblioteca Nacional de España (BNE, National Library of Spain) as Linked Data. The catalogue contains around 7 million authority and bibliographic records. The records in MARC 21 format were transformed to RDF and modelled using IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations) ontologies and other well-established vocabularies such as RDA (Resource Description and Access) or the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set. A tool named MARiMbA automatized the RDF generation process and the data linkage to DBpedia and other library linked data resources such as …VIAF (Virtual International Authority File) or GND (Gemeinsame Normdatei, the authority dataset from the German National Library). Abstract: The improvement of public health is one of the main indicators for societal progress. Statistical data for monitoring public health is highly relevant for a number of sectors, such as research (e.g. in the life sciences or economy), policy making, health care, pharmaceutical industry, insurances etc. Such data is meanwhile available even on a global scale, e.g. in the Global Health Observatory (GHO) of the United Nations's World Health Organization (WHO). GHO comprises more than 50 different datasets, it covers all 198 WHO member countries and is updated as more recent or revised data becomes available or when there are …changes to the methodology being used. However, this data is only accessible via complex spreadsheets and, therefore, queries over the 50 different datasets as well as combinations with other datasets are very tedious and require a significant amount of manual work. By making the data available as RDF, we lower the barrier for data re-use and integration. Abstract: The EUscreen project represents the European television archives and acts as a domain aggregator for Europeana, Europe's digital library. The main motivation for its creation was to provide unified access to a representative collection of television programs, secondary sources and articles, and in this way to allow students, scholars and the general public to study the history of television in its wider context. In this paper, we present the methodology followed for publishing the EUscreen dataset as Linked Open Data.

Abstract: In this paper we present an account of the publication of a suite of datasets, LEAPS, that collectively enable the evaluation of potential algal biomass production sites in North West Europe (NWE). LEAPS forms the basis of a prototype Web application that enables stakeholders in the algal biomass domain to interactively explore via various facets, potential algal production sites and sources of their consumables across NWE.

Abstract: Born in the early 1980's as a multilingual agricultural thesaurus, AGROVOC has steadily evolved over the last fifteen years, moving to an electronic version around the year 2000, and embracing the Semantic Web shortly thereafter. Today AGROVOC is a SKOS-XL concept scheme published as Linked Open Data, containing links (as well as backlinks) and references to many other Linked Datasets in the LOD cloud. In this paper we provide a brief historical summary of AGROVOC and detail its specification as a Linked Dataset.
