Abstract: The Human Sensory System consists of seven distinct elements: the visual, olfactory, gustatory, auditory, superficial somatosensory, inner somatosensory along with vestibular, and thermosensory systems. Each of them is provided with a specialized sets of receptor cells and is able to perceive a stimulus of specific modality. The power to finely discriminate different stimuli of the same modality derives from the properties of the receptor cells which play like fuzzy sets. A stimulus belongs to the receptor fuzzy sets at different degrees. The information of stimuli is encoded in fuzzy information, i.e. in values of membership functions. Due to the structural …constraints of sensory systems and the neural noise, human perception is fuzzy-granular and a process of Bayesian probabilistic inference. A link between the Bayes theory of perception and fuzzy sensory information is established in this work. The ideas presented herein will inspire the design of new Artificial Sensory Systems having the purpose of solving Pattern Recognition problems. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problems with 2-tuple linguistic information. Motivated by the ideal of Bonferroni mean and geometric Bonferroni mean, we develop two aggregation techniques called the 2-tuple linguistic Bonferroni mean (2TLBM) operator and the 2-tuple linguistic geometric Bonferroni mean (2TLGBM) operator for aggregating the 2-tuple linguistic information. We study its properties and discuss its special cases. For the situations where the input arguments have different importance, we then define the 2-tuple linguistic weighted Bonferroni mean (2TLWBM) operator and the 2-tuple linguistic weighted geometric Bonferroni mean (2TLWGBM) operator, based on which we develop …two procedure for multiple attribute decision making under the 2-tuple linguistic environments. Finally, a practical example with comprehensive evaluating modeling of brand extension is given to verify the developed approach and to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness. Show more

Abstract: Due to the improvements in communication technology, and aspiration for higher profit, in recent years construction companies tend to undertake contracts in international markets. However, there are many risks involved in international construction projects which differ from country to country which might influence the go/no-go decision of the contractors. Not only do the host country conditions play an important role, but also the capabilities and the resources of a company affect this decision process. In this paper, a spreadsheet-based decision support tool which makes use of MADM (Multiple Attribute Decision Making) is developed to rate the countries considering the risks …and opportunities offered by these countries which also makes it possible for the decision makers to enter their own criteria using the spreadsheet template. Using different sources, and based on the questionnaires obtained from 21 Turkish decision makers, the possible criteria are determined. The Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) methods have been combined to rate the countries under consideration. The system is easy to use and can serve as a practical guiding framework for international contractors to evaluate countries under different criteria. Show more

Abstract: The Maclaurin symmetric mean (MSM) was originally introduced by Maclaurin and then generalized by Detemple and Robertson. The prominent characteristic of the MSM is that it can capture the interrelationship among the multi-input arguments. However, the researches on MSM are very rare, especially in fuzzy decision making. In this paper, we investigate the MSM operator and extend the MSM operator to intuitionistic fuzzy environment. Some new aggregation operators based on MSM for dealing with intuitionistic fuzzy information are developed, such as the intuitionistic fuzzy Maclaurin symmetric mean (IFMSM) and the weighted intuitionistic fuzzy Maclaurin symmetric mean (WIFMSM). Some desirable properties …and special cases of these operators are discussed in detail. Based on WIFMSM operator, an approach to multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problems with intuitionistic fuzzy information is developed. Finally, a practical example is provided to illustrate the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed method. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the multivariate linear regression of fuzzy data when model parameters are constrained by a set of linear inequalities. It is motivated by the facts that the measurement results of device in real-life situations are always not precise numbers and that (model) structure involving linear inequalities is usually faced to in practice. With assuming fuzzy data are seen as a possibility distribution associated to a precise realization of a random variable, we first propose a restricted fuzzy expectation/conditional maximization (RFECM) algorithm for calculating restricted maximum likelihood estimates of parameters of interest from fuzz data. We then …demonstrate the convergence of RFECM algorithm. Using RFECM finally establishes the so-called likelihood-based multivariate fuzzy linear regression model with crisp inputs and fuzzy outputs, constrained by linear inequalities. Some simulations are conducted to validate the performance of our proposed model. Show more

Abstract: This paper proposes the application of genetic programming (GP) to forecast monthly river flow. The river flow models were improved by the monthly rainfall and flow data from three stations for Kizilirmak River, Turkey. The coefficient of determination (R2 ) and root mean square error (RMSE) values were used for evaluating the accuracy of the developed models. The most appropriate GP model was determined as model having monthly flow data of Yamula and Bulakbaşi stations according to the model performance criteria for testing data set. The models obtained using the GP were compared with multiple linear regression (MLR) techniques in …river flow forecasting. The comparison results revealed that the suggested GP model performs quite well compared to MLR models. It was shown that the suggested GP model with R2 = 0.96 and RMSE = 8.02 m3 /s for testing period could be used in planning and management of water resources. Show more

Abstract: An extended TOPSIS method is proposed to solve the multiple attribute decision making problems in which the attribute values take the form of 2-dimension uncertain linguistic variables and the attribute weight is unknown. Firstly, the operational rules of 2-dimension uncertain linguistic variables are established and the related features are studied, and the distance formula of 2-dimensional uncertain variables is proposed. Then, the attribute weight can be calculated by utilizing the maximum deviation method, and ranking the order of the alternatives is done by TOPSIS method. Finally, an illustrate example is given to show the decision making steps and the effectiveness …of this method. Show more

Abstract: The paper proposes the concepts of an interval neutrosophic linguistic set (INLS) and an interval neutrosophic linguistic number (INLN) as a further generalization of the concepts of an intuitionistic linguistic set (ILS) and an intuitionistic linguistic fuzzy number (ILFN). Then, we introduce basic operational rules of INLNs and define the score function, accuracy function, and certainty function of an INLN. Furthermore, we propose an interval neutrosophic linguistic weighted arithmetic average (INLWAA) operator and an interval neutrosophic linguistic weighted geometric average (INLWGA) operator and investigate their properties, and then establish a decision-making method based on the INLWAA and INLWGA operators to …handle multiple attribute decision-making problems with interval neutrosophic linguistic information. Finally, an illustrative example of investment alternatives is given to demonstrate the application and effectiveness of the developed approach. Show more

Abstract: In order to calibrate camera with radial distortion model, a novel approach based on the hybrid neural network with rotational weight matrix and self-adaptive genetic-annealing algorithm is proposed. Firstly two sorts of neural networks are structured, whose weights are corresponding to the camera's extrinsic parameters and intrinsic parameters without and with radial distortion, so the structured neural networks coincide with the camera's pin hole model and radial distortion model respectively. And the performance index is obtained from the square of 2-norm of the difference between the vector consisted of network's outputs and the tested retinal coordinates of corresponding feature points …projected in image planes. At the same time, a genetic-annealing algorithm is introduced into the solving-programming, where the probabilities of crossover and mutation are tuned according to the distance density of individuals, and unequal probability matching strategy is adopted. Thus while the system come to the equilibrium, the camera's parameters with radial distortion are obtained in the light of network's weights. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed approach is robust, and has the advantages over existing algorithms in calibration precision, and orthogonality of rotational matrix, in particular the precision of intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of camera, which provides a practical scheme for calibrating camera with radial distortion model. Abstract: The aim of this paper is to introduce a new class of contractive mappings such as fuzzy α-ψ-contractive mappings and to present some fixed point theorems for such mappings in complete fuzzy metric space in the sense of Kramosil and Michalek. The results presented in this paper substantially generalize and extend several comparable results in the existing literature. Also, some examples are given to support the usability of our results.
