Abstract: Executives and senior managers often serve many constituencies and face numerous pressures to perform. These well-intentioned and intelligent people search for an acceptable, and hopefully profitable, middle ground amidst these constituencies and pressures. This search is far from aimless or random. There are common patterns and most executives and senior managers face similar problems or challenges. This article focuses on these common challenges. Abstract: As product life cycles have become shorter, the length of time required to develop new products (the time-to-market interval) has become a critical competitive problem for many companies. This paper summarizes some approaches that can be used to reduce this interval. Companies must change to a time-based mindset and develop a new design paradigm. Abstract: Companies successful in one product category or technology often fail badly when they enter into new markets or new technologies. The failure is not due to poor personnel or poor product design. In most cases the failure results from an inappropriate management approach to the new product development project. In this paper, we examine the reasons for such failures and present case studies of successful and failing projects. We relate these incidents to a theoretical framework …for classifying new product development projects based on their contextual nature. This paper presents a case analysis of automotive fuel efficiency technologies, posed as a functional analysis, rather than as a technology analysis. Abstract: The focus of Business Process Reengineering (BPR) on the process concept puts forth the need for consistent methods and techniques for the capture, representation and performance assessment of business processes. In addition, Information Process Reengineering (IPR), i.e., the analysis of how to use legacy and new information systems to automate and support the reengineered business processes, requires the development of information process models, that are consistent, transparent and coherent with the business process models. …Although the object-oriented approach seems to be the most suitable for a common process modelling scheme, it lacks significant attributes that would model the specificities of the business domain. In order to tackle this problem, the present paper develops a coupled modelling framework, that integrates an object-oriented method (Object Modelling Technique, OMT) and a business workflow analysis method (Action Workflow Analysis, AWA). The application of the framework to a banking case-study proves its usefulness and practicality. Show more
