Preface

1.This Thematic Issue

This issue of JAISE is focused on the theme of “Human-centred AmI: Cognitive Approaches, Reasoning and Learning”. Ambient Intelligence (AmI) has been recognized as an important component of modern technology, and one which will only work when putting humans at the centre [1].

This is not a new paradigm shift, as human-centric computing has preceded the appearance of the AmI paradigm. However, the requirements that human-centric computing impose on the design would make system development a significantly more involved process than typical engineering teams deal with. This intention of making systems more human-centred has to be present in all major aspects of system development.

Hence, this Thematic Issue is very welcomed and why our journal JAISE was keen on being able to contribute to progress in the topic.

We wish to thank our colleagues Zoe Falomir (University of Bremen, Germany), Juan Antonio Ortega (University of Seville, Spain), Natividad Martinez Madrid (University of Reutlingen, Germany), and Hans W. Guesgen (Massey University, New Zealand) for organizing the content of this issue and bringing their research experience in the area of human-centric intelligent environments to the creation of this Thematic Issue for our journal.
