Abstract: The construction of ontologies is a long and complicated process, even with the powerful tools that are available today. Based on experiences with ontologies in the domain of building construction, MetaConcept defines the structure of the ontology starting with the high-level domain concepts, i.e., the dimensions that define the structure of the concepts in the domain. MetaConcept then proposes a meta-ontology to facilitate the development of knowledge repositories and establishes the corresponding development stages. The paper presents a detailed application of these stages to the implementation of KOC 2.0, a data repository for real-world experiences in building construction and its knowledge repository, which aims to support the teaching of the construction techniques in the field of Architecture. Another example for a lessons-learned system also illustrate the soundness and applicability of MetaConcept.
